a pictorial update

so i thought that i would catch up on the picture posting portion of the blog....

this is the entrance to a the old town of besalú. this was on a bridge that spanned a river and it was the main entrance to the old town. it kinda looked like a face to me with two eyes, a nose, a really big mouth and some funny hair cut with two racing stripes down the middle---

some interesting flowers in the hills around cadaques. when i first saw them i thought that they were pitcher plants, those carnivorious plants found in the wet pine savannahs of the southeast u.s. but these were along rocky hillsides and didn´t seem to be bugeaters... do they look like jack-in-the-pulpits??? i don´t know---

a very pretty collection of sea urchins which delores and i found washed up along the beach at our campsite in cadaques-

the engineering part of me really really appreciated this old stone bridge on the path to the cadaques campsite

and continuing with the engineering them...our maybe more so architecture, this is the sagrada familia, the unfinished masterpiece by the arcitect anton gaudí. it is still under construction and is expected to be completed with the next FORTY TO FIFTY YEARS!

detail of one side of the cathedral

some really impressive scaffolding work shown here. a masterpiece in its own right!

and now for some pictures of la alhambra, a moorish fortess/palace of epic granduer

the gardens and fountains were amazing here. there are many more photos that i don´t think i´ll have time to post right now...

these are orange trees (and a puzzled british woman) being trained up the wall. if you click on the picture and look closely i think you can see some of the oranges...none of the were ripe---we triedand this is campsite in nerja. delores is asleep in that pile of sleeping bags in the foreground and i´m getting stuff together for our mornings hot green tea. that always make it much more pleasant to get out of the sleeping bag---and one day here in nerja we decided to follow the river up to a swimming hole... we never found a swimming hole but we did find this-

i felt like i was in an indiana jones movie or somesuch

this picture is for my plant friends who have taught me so much--- ali, sam, and dustin
you can see sam´s blog at http://sambomc.blogspot.com/2009/02/busy-busy-busy.html
and dustin´s (although he hasn´t started posting much yet at http://dustinsthruhike.blogspot.com/2008/12/blog-post_24.html

while we in figures we went to the salvidor dalí museum and it was great. there we so many strange and excentric things. this was one of them, a small green hole in the side of a much larger room...the hole was about the size of baseball---

and when you peered thru you saw this!

now for some random pictures. here is a picture of a guy in figueres that took pictures of us to use in a book about figueres...i guess it was a travel book or something, but we were just sitting on bench in a park having a lunch of sandwiches-
this picture is for brian---as i know he has a deep and unabiding love of bacon...

delores and i did do the impossible and walked thru that entrance way!
more pictures of the delores with animals storyline---
and in case anyone was worried about us, the sacred heart of jesus watched over us while we slept
